We love the city and its surrounding environs, and are committed to being an integral part of the city’s landscape for some time to come.
So we wanted to focus this blog post on a NYC initiative that has been going on since 2008: namely, the PlaNYC campaign. In partnership with the Environmental Defense Fund, NYC’s City Administration launched the PlaNYC campaign in 2008 to reduce air pollution in the city.
A major focus of the PlaNYC initiative has been to replace boilers in public and private buildings in the city. Since the initiative has been launched, over 6,000 boilers have been replaced in public and private buildings in NYC.
City estimates indicate that the new boilers likely will prevent 210 premature deaths and 540 hospitalizations each year.
Due to the added benefit of producing cleaner air, schools within NYC are a target of the PlaNYC campaign. Between now and 2030, there is a plan in place to upgrade more than 100 school boilers from no.4 heating oil boilers to new boilers that run on cleaner fuels. Other schools have no.6 oil boilers, which also will be replaced with boilers that run on cleaner fuel. The result will be less pollution in and around these schools – providing a safer, cleaner environment for students.
Plumbwell Services applauds the leadership of the NYC Administration, in their concerted efforts to improve the health and living conditions for all people in the city.
